Needing to use a wheelchair for any extensive period of time might be a troublesome situation for any person to have to cope with. There are many obstacles to prevail over that more mobile folks rarely even become aware of. Fortunately, as time has progressed, innovations have come forward to make dealing with being in a wheelchair a bit more stress-free. One of those innovations is something known as a wheelchair lift.

A residential wheelchair lift can be described as a powered device used to assist somebody incapacitated within a wheelchair. It will lift up the mobility chair - whether or not it is a folding wheel chair or perhaps a motorized model for example the Jazzy Power Chair - over any challenging height or assist in overcoming a particular hurdle.

Not only does this help in providing the individual in the chair a greater feeling of independence, but it additionally helps to avoid any additional personal injury that may possibly be suffered in a challenging situation. An instance of this might be a van or even a bus that has a wheelchair lift set up.

As opposed to putting individuals in jeopardy by needing to lift a heavy wheelchair into the van, the lift immediately lifts and places the chair securely inside of the van. Although safer and more convenient, quite a few van businesses decide to install a wheelchair ramp rather than a lift, since the lift is usually a much more costly undertaking.

A van or perhaps a bus are just a single case of where somebody may locate a wheelchair lift. They also can be found in homes that have more than just one level. Typically affixed to a staircase, the wheelchair is attached to the staircase by the lift, and the individual can go from one level of the house to the other with ease.

Again, this enables the individual additional self-reliance, and in some situations is often the difference in living alone or living with a caregiver. The types of lifts which are installed inside the home can occasionally be covered by medical insurance. Unfortunately though, in most situations they will also call for some type of monetary expense.

Even if they can be pricey, they are able to supply something to a person in a wheelchair that money just can't buy - a sense of purpose and freedom, plus the capability to be able to function on their own.

Regardless of whether installed inside a van or inside the residence, wheelchair stair lifts are a valuable aid to anyone who is wheelchair bound for any period of time. They are a step in the right direction to supply those with a disability the self-reliance that they truly deserve.

If you or a loved one have mobility issues you may want to consider a mobility scooter. Be sure to visit my site to find out more about 3 wheel scooters and 4 wheel scooters to increase mobility.

Stair Lifts: The Features And Advantages

People who are physically challenged get very depressed when they have to depend on others for each of their movements. Traveling from one floor to another can be very tough for a handicapped person. "Necessity is the mother of all inventions" and this quote can be used to refer to the circumstances that led to the invention of stairlifts.

If you want to install stair lifts in your building then all you need is sufficient space, albeit not a large area. A normal standard space will be enough for installing the residential stair lifts.

Moreover, these residential lifts are also very affordable. If you are planning to install them then you can do so without investing an exorbitant amount on them.

There are 2 places where you can install a stair lift. One is inside the building and the other is outside it. So, according to your purpose you can fix the stair lift. If you are installing the home stair lift outside then you do not have to worry about the changing climate, as the weather shield or weatherproof lifts are designed in such a way that it will protect you while you are in the lift.

The most important feature of a good stair lift is its safety measure features. Some features that are incorporated in most of the stairlifts are emergency alarm, emergency stop switch, backup light, telephone system and proper power supply. The lifts may also include folding tracks and arms, gear and jacks that are hidden, obstacle sensory system, and seats that can be easily adjusted.

No one can predict any accidents beforehand, but surely you can take the adequate safety precautions in order to avoid any major accident. These features will help physically challenged people to travel on the stair lift safely.

There are 2 types of stair lift models found in the market. One is the AC stair lift model that works on electricity only. The other is the DC stair lift model that works on electricity and also on an inbuilt battery. So, if there is a power cut then the stair lift battery models are much more effective than the AC stair lift models as they can be operated without the power supply as well. The inbuilt battery will help you to run the DC model stair lifts.

Generally, if you go by the price you will see that the DC stair lift models are far more expensive than the AC models. But, if you are looking for superior quality and service then DC stair lift models are a better option. To conclude it can be said that, stair lifts can provide someone with a real sense of joy derived from their independence.

Useful Information If You’re New To The Stair Lift Chair Industry

July 17th, 2010 Terry Kotsopoulos Posted in Residential Stair Lifts No Comments »

Find Out More About a stair chair lift for your home.
And check out our stairlift review

Buying a stair lift chair can be a complicated and emotionally-wrought task. This article will help make light of the matter by introducing three important topics for those new to the subject: I. Dealing with a local company; II. Types of stairlifts; and III. Power sources.

To use or not use a local company is an important decision. Local companies might know of some local funding sources that could take care of part of all of the price. Also, an in-home visit is very likely, and in general the service will be more personalized. Lastly, local companies have the best grasp of recycled equipment that might be available. (Note that the demand for used stair lifts is fairly high.) Non-local companies, on the contrary, might have more connections to financial institutions and might be able to offer financing. As well, the unit will be less expensive if it is not sold via a reseller.

You may doubt the sufficiency of space in your home for the equipment, or wonder whether equipment exists that can meet your specific stair configuration. There are several different options to choose from when purchasing a stair lift chair lift. For straight staircases with ample space, a straight stair stair lift is appropriate. If you have this situation, you are in luck, because these devices (a) are the least expensive, (b) have the greatest installation flexibility, and (c) count for the greatest proportion of models on the market. An added bonus is that if you are particularly price-sensitive, some of these models can be assembled and installed by the customer. For example, the Acorn stair lift chair is a good choice for straight staircases.

On the other hand, if your staircase is curved, or there are other complications, you will need a curved stair chair lift. This device needs to be custom installed, and therefore will be a lot more expensive. Up to 50% of the cost can be paid from the fee of a custom assessment and installation. Furthermore, the mechanism for a curved stair chair lift is more sophisticated, and therefore, too, more expensive. Finally, for situations where there is not a lot of space, a perch stair lift would be necessary, which is a platform stair lift on which the rider would stand or "perch" while ascending or descending the staircase.

Stair lifts can draw their power in one of two ways: They can either be directly connected to the house's power, or use a battery pack. The former type of device is less expensive, and can be made to look smaller and more elegant, since the need is obviated for storing a battery pack. However, in the event of a power outage, it will no longer be able to carry the rider up. Not to worry, even a powerless device is made to gently glide back to its landing station at the base of the stairs. The latter type, a battery powered stair lift chair, is more expensive, because of (a) the initial cost of the battery and (b) the cost of replacement batteries years down the road. Of course, it will continue to function in the event of a power failure. If the rider's mobility impairment is not very severe, that he or she may still be able to ascend the stairs without the use of the lift, then a directly-powered unit would suffice.

I hope that by having touched on these three points, you're a bit more comfortable in this new subject. The first and most important decision is whether to go local or global; then, what kind of power source do you need? You also are now aware of the three basic types of stair lifts.

Getting A Stair Chair Lift Was A Great Decision

July 15th, 2010 Kevin Strobel Posted in Residential Stair Lifts No Comments »

We all know what a stair chair lift is so I won't bore you with some innocuous details about how they operate. Rather, I would like to recount a story about my grandmother who was suffering from mobility issues and how we had struggled between our love and loyalty with the obvious monetary considerations about purchasing the stair chair.

My grandmother was born in the early 1900's in a small town in Italy. At an early age she became stricken with polio , which left her with a severe limp. As she grew older the limp had become increasingly worse, getting to the point where she could no longer make her way up the stairs very easily. She was living in an old brownstone in Brooklyn, New York and if you have ever been in one of these homes you know how steep and narrow the steps can be. She was a tough Italian woman that refused to admit she couldn't do something but this was becoming too much to overcome.

We had a difficult decision to make about her future and what would be best for her. A nursing home was out of the question and moving was also not an option. The church she attended everyday was right next door and being a devotedly religious person she couldn't bear the thought of not being able to go to church everyday. We made the decision to have a stair chair lift installed so she could remain in the place that made her the happiest.

The chairlift was going to be more expensive then we had originally thought because the the way the home was setup and the narrowness of the stairs. On a limited income my grandmother had no way of paying for the stair chair so we had another decision to make.

Ultimately our final decision was to get the stair chair installed and allow my grandmother to live out her remaining years in the home she had come to love. The look of joy and gratitude on my grandmothers face was priceless.

Buying the stair chair lift was the best decision we ever made. The money wasn't important. It was the quality of life and the happiness an old woman received knowing that people cared for her and she was able to remain in a place she loved so dearly. What decision would you make?

Disabled Stair Lifts Give Freedom

With all the different types of disabled stair lifts in use today it is hard to list them all. They definitely all have one common goal, and that is to help disabled persons to access places that would perhaps otherwise be inaccessible. Platform lifts are used to carry wheel chair users and the fixed type relies on a rail embedded in the wall and a moving seat.

The most important thing designers' consider is safety. How much weight can this design carry safely? What are the size and strength of components needed? There are many user features that enhance safety such as pressure sensitive buttons or levers that will automatically cut out should the pressure be released; as well as keys to lock and switch the mechanism off. This stops the possibility of misuse and accidents with inquisitive children.

Most properties can potentially have a lift fitted. This is mainly due to modern materials and ever improving designs. Space considerations could be one problem that needs attention especially where stairways are narrow. Consideration must be given in not restricting emergency exits. Stairlift systems can be made to fold flush to walls or fit into neat recesses and in doing so, cause little or no restriction of traffic flow at all.

The fundamental purpose of a chair lift is to enable more access and freedom for those whose mobility is limited by a disability. From the very first product evolution and installations, the differences made to the everyday lives of people with disabilities have been enormous. It has brought more normalcy into their lives.

Today we have strict regulations, rules that give disabled people equal rights. So it is not unusual for us to not notice such apparatus and really just take it for granted until needed. Of course there are places that are still awaiting adaptation for disabled access. This is particularly true in historically listed or older buildings.

The biggest change has taken place with a simple lift enabling a disabled person to ascend and descend between floors without the fear of falling. The fear of falling is the number one fear of the elderly. So for anyone who is restricted by disabilities, disabled stair lifts are a real dream come true taking all the worry out of facing stairs and making life a lot easier and widening everyday accessibility to the outside world.

You deserve complete access, you don't have to be confined to one level in your house. See how disabled stairlifts can ease your problems easily and economically. Visit:http://disabledstairlifts.org/

Consider Residential Stair Lifts

Residential Stair Lifts For Your Home

Residential stair lifts may be either in someone's own home or in a residential residence for the elderly possibly.

Ideally when you use one of this type of stair lifts in your own house it allows you to stay in your comfortable personal home for as long as possible.

Really it is very cost effective if you would like to look at that aspect as well. It certainly costs a great deal less to have residential stair lifts fitted than it might cost for a residential care home.

Plus consider how much nicer it might be to have the ability to remain in the surroundings that you love.

It may be that you actually reside with one of your own relatives and they are thinking about of getting one of this type of stair lifts installed for your wellbeing and safety.

Not only could it give you superior ability to move around it would make easier their thoughts as to your safety. Once you had become used to the operation of the lift they should think that they might leave you to your own devices.

That would be extremely excellent for the morale of the aged person. Sometimes whenever you age and possibly a bit frail you begin to feel as though you require to be cared for as though you were a young person again. Whilst the love and caring is very nice, it from time to time can be a little disheartening to understand that you are no more independent.

Residential stair lifts offer some person who may not be elderly but suffers from any disability whether long term or for the short term, full mobility as regards the stairs.

If the person requires the use of a wheelchair the lift will bring them downstairs and twist the chair so that they are situated correctly to be able to have access to their wheelchair in safety.

If your steps are not completely straight up and down but possibly contain a little section of landing at the top that follows on to an added couple of steps leading off to the right or left, a little platform can be fitted that will come lay down and bridge the opening and permit you to move directly onto the landing beyond.

You do not have to have a hugely broad staircase to be able to have a stair lift installed, in actual fact 27" is all that is necessary and that should allow even a 6' tall passenger sitting down, the ability to traverse the steps.

Noticeably straight stairs are a great deal simpler to fit and less costly than a rounded stairway. If you possess a rounded staircase then the tracking has to be custom made to accommodate the specific curvature of your stairs.

That makes them more expensive decidedly, but it in addition means that though your steps are curved it is no deterrent to your having the comfort and safety of the sort of of residential stair lifts to make your life easier.

Things To Consider Before You Buy A Chair Stair Lift

When it comes to prices regarding chair lifts for stairs their is an array of difference amongst manufacturers. The costs vary due to a number of reasons. Some of the things to look for in stairlifts are the style or brand of stairway lift you are looking for, as well as the shape and style of stairs you currently have in your residence.

Prices of chair lifts for stairs will likely vary based on whether one will receive some form of monetary aid from the government or other. Furthermore, several opt for a used or refurbished model compared to a new stair lift. After doing some careful research it is safe to say that paying more than $2,500 is typical for any basic straight stairway lift. On the other hand, plan on paying in excess of $10,000 for people with curved stairways and you are having the lift installed by a specialist.

This can be a major decision which is the reason why you ought to carefully research before you buy and do a comparison of manufacturer prices. Again from my personal research it's a complicated purchase decision because most producers are not always willing to give you a price quote over the phone. You will find a number of obvious reasons for this. First, they have to evaluate your requirements to consider what stair lift might be best suited for you. Second, they have to determine the size and shape of your stairs together with figuring out whether or not they'll do the unit installation.

If I were to give you top tips on how to deal with this situation, it would be this: Attempt to get the vendor to provide you with a "ballpark" range based on your situation and needs. If they're unable to supply you this number, then simply move on to another manufacturer.

One of the best methods to try to decrease your stair lift cost is to find and buy a second hand or refurbished one. A few of the ideal locations to look are by asking the manufacturers themselves, classifieds, or auction sites like Ebay.com. If, however, you chose to go this route then negotiating a warranty with your purchase is highly recommended. By doing this you may get some security of your chair lift for stairs purchase if for some reason something happens to it.

Yet another choice you might consider is renting a stairway lift. This might very well be a good alternative if your manufacturer will support this option. So, by now you may be all anxious because these things are pricey. However, research has told me that these companies are flexible on how you finance your purchase. Some options may be by refinancing your house or any other loan arrangements.

It's unfortunate, but I've not found many agencies or subsidies that grant funding for such a purchase. However, it doesn't hurt to ask your insurance provider if they cover some of the cost of a chair lift for stairs.

Learn About The Useful Handicap Stair Lift

There is little which can create such a huge change to the quality of life of a person who is disabled in some manner as handicap stair lifts.

The major benefit of a home stair lift is the ability to travel around their own residence totally by their own power, not reliant on other persons all the time.

Just being having the ability to go upstairs whenever needed can be so striking a change for someone who has not been able to do so for a long period of time.

Maybe that person has had to squeeze all their day to day living into the downstairs areas instead of obtaining the benefit of the upper level, bedrooms, maybe bathrooms etc.

This change is probably not just physical, the confidence of this or persons is bound to get such a lift, it is incredible how such handicap stair lifts can bring a change for the good in someone's life.

Installing the stair lift should not be difficult, there is no need for any big upheaval but there will be some minor building changes necessary. The track for the seat is going to be fixed to the steps [not on the wall as some people think] and after that the chair is attached to run on the track.

The chairs themselves are supplied with armrests that lift up and out of the way, and the buttons can be located on either the left or right arm. The foot support also raises up and out of the way when not necessary.

Seats are available in other sizes, somebody severely handicapped might have to have a bigger seat having a security-belt for greatest protection, and this is not a difficulty.

Seating can be made to rotate round at top or bottom to make possible easy rising to erect up at the finish of the ride, maybe to have access to a wheelchair.

Typically handicap stair lifts and stair lifts in general when operated in the house run on the electricity supply of the house. A number of persons could prefer to own a battery operated type that has totally re-chargeable batteries. This is especially practical if you reside anywhere where you frequently have to endure electricity cuts.

A power cut might be catastrophic, on occasion these may go on for a long time, and if a disabled person was stranded half way up the flight of stairs and not a soul was around to assist them up or down the rest of the route - big problem!

Naturally this sort of stair lift can be installed on outdoor steps, but that is an additional story.

Whilst determining to install one of this type of stair lifts you have to determine the measurement of your staircase. So long as they are anyplace from 27" to 29" this could be enough to let even a 6' adult to navigate the flight of stairs seated.

The other key point to reflect on is whether your stairs are a straight run or go round a curve. If your own are curled unfortunately you would have to pay more for your lift as the tracking are custom-made and made to suit exactly your own specific stairway.

Some types have an further safety element in that they are supplied with a key so that only the genuine individual user can switch on the lift. Not a chance, if there are kids in the residence that they are able to mess about on it.

Altogether, handicap stair lifts can be thought a fantastic life enhancing creation.
