If you or a loved one relies on a wheelchair for mobility, you know how difficult climbing up and down stairs can be.  If your home has stairs it can be frustrating to be essentially cut off from part of your home.  If this is a situation you find yourself in then a residential stair lift may just be the answer.

There are essentially three solutions to conquering stairs in your residence.  The first is a ramp system, which can be difficult to implement depending on the home's layout.  The second is an elevator which can be cost prohibitive to your average consumer.

The third solution, a residential stair lift, creates a happy medium between the two.  A stair lift will save you from the expense of an elevator and at the same time, it is a solution that can be implemented in practically any stair situation.

A residential stair lift comes in an inclined or a vertical model.  Both types of stair lifts operate similarly.  You will be presented with a platform to roll your wheelchair onto via a ramp.  The access ramps will fold up and you will be securely held in place during your ascent or decent.

To reach the floor or level you are interested in visiting, you use a push button.  Holding down the button will propel the ramp in the direction you desire.  Quickly pushing and releasing the button will allow you to safely direct the ramp where you need it to go.

Most wheelchair users will prefer an inclined platform.  The inclined platform can easily be customized for your type of staircase, with tracks and a platform that are attached to the staircase walls or pillars.

A vertical lift platform resembles an elevator, but you do not need to cut holes in the floor of a room above or below in order to use it.  You can find a vertical lift platform in either an open or a closed variety, depending upon your preference.

No matter what your needs or preferences, you will be able to find a residential stair lift to meet your needs and desires.  With a residential stair lift you will no longer have to struggle trying to conquer the stairs in your home.  Climbing a flight of stairs will once again be accomplished with ease.
