Money Tight? Consider A Used Wheelchair Lift!
And check out our stairlift review
Need to get up and down stairs but age or a handicap is holding you back, or making the task more difficult? Don’t have the money to purchase a new wheelchair lift? Perhaps used wheelchair lifts are the ideal solution for you.
An elderly or handicapped person approaches stairs differently than an able bodied person. The task of climbing or descending stairs can be more intimidating. Fortunately technology has come up with various products that make life easier, and when it comes to climbing stairs, a stair lift can be a godsend.
A new stair lift may not be in the budget for everyone. The good news is there are used wheelchair lifts available that are much more economical and may be just what you’re looking for.
New wheelchair lifts and used wheelchair lifts function in an identical manner. Tracks are installed along your stairway and a platform is provided for you to stand or sit or roll onto while you climb the stairs. Buttons are provided that allow you to control the direction you travel in.
The stair lift can be powered by either a battery or through an electrical connection. The battery operated stair lifts will typically use rechargeable batteries and the electric model will need to be connected to a power supply connection.
So, where do you find used wheelchair lifts? Ironically, the best place to find a used wheelchair lift is through a new stair lift manufacturer.
A number of stair lift providers will also lease a stair lift to parties’ just needing one for a temporary time period. When the leased units are returned they can no longer be sold as new so the manufacturer is likely to work out a good deal on a used unit.
Before making your purchase of a used wheelchair lift you should investigate the reputation of the seller to make sure you are dealing with a reputable company.
You should also review the terms and conditions of the lease or purchase very carefully and make sure you are aware of the terms that are being proposed. If you don’t agree with something see if you can negotiate better terms for yourself.
If possible, call several manufacturers and consult with them on what models and products are available for your budget and circumstances.
Whether you are looking for new or used wheelchair lifts, there will be a model just right for you and you will be tackling the stairs like an old pro before you know it.

WE TRIED GETTING A RAMP MADE BUT IT TAKES UP TO MUCH SPACE AND NEEDS PERMITS AND WE SEEM TO BE RUNNING INTO A BRICK WALL SO I THOUGHT A LIFT WOULD BE EASIER AND FASTER.THANK YOU

Hello Tricia – It is very nice to see you taking care of your mother in her time of need. There are some relatively inexpensive chair lifts available, it all just depends on what you consider affordable. Check your local phone book or yellowpages(dot)com and search for Medical Equipment and Supplies or even Wheelchair Lifts and Ramps and you should find a list of stair lift retailers. Ask about any used models they may have available. You can also search on eBay for used lifts, there are usually a number of them listed there. Finally, if your mother is still slightly mobile but just needs assistance navigating stairs then you may consider this alternative to stair lifts that ingeniously reduces the depth of the steps making them more manageable. I wish you the best of luck with your mother and hope she has many days ahead to play in the garden!
